Not to end on a sad note, I am happy to share
with you the cover of my upcoming children's book (for early readers, ages 7-9)! I am looking at a release date of April 2023.
This book is the one writing project I have been able to push along this year despite my battle with
tennis elbow. In fact, I was going back and forth on versions of the cover with my book designer, my illustrator, and my art director brother while touring Poland. Natalie and the Nazi Soldiers is based on my mother-in-law Nana's (short for Natalie) experiences as a hidden child in France during the Holocaust. Her father was the only one of my husband's grandparents to survive. It struck me as particularly meaningful that I sat on a tour bus in Tarnow, his hometown, working on creating
this book that spins forward the story of his family. It is a tiny dose of creative positivity to set against the gravity of what happened to this family and millions of others.
More about the book in upcoming newsletters! I
know I asked you this summer to let me know if you are interested in being on the advance team for this book. Since it's been a while, please write back and let me know if you are still interested. This means:
- I will send you (in January) a pdf of the book to
review to catch any errors or inconsistencies. It looks like the book will have 32 pages, most of which are illustration. You'll have one week to get back to me with your feedback.
- You'll be able to buy the book at a discount when I first release it in exchange for posting a review to Amazon.
