Dear Readers,
This will be another short missive as I am still battling the tendonitis in my right arm. It improved during my travels but handling my luggage on the return set me back.
Contemplating my trip, I am again amazed how transitory life is, and how very much we have to seize an opportunity when it presents itself. My daughter and I managed to go on a glorious day trip to Bethlehem and Jericho while we were in Israel--an excursion that we wouldn't be doing now given the recent terror attacks. When we
visited, border checkpoints between Israel and the Palestinian-controlled areas were wide open! The above photo is from our cable car ride up to the Mount of Temptation Monastery in Jericho. Sadly, I can't put photo essays together now, but I did manage to share more pictures of my travels and encounters in Israel, Germany and Austria on Instagram.
The main reason for my sojourn in Germany was to spend time with my mom and celebrate her 85th birthday. Unfortunately her dementia has gotten worse, and she couldn't quite figure out who I was. Even though I knew this would eventually happen, it still came as a shock. If any of you have had to deal with this and have any pointers
on how to handle this gracefully, let me know! Nevertheless, Mom thankfully continues to be easy going, and we did have a nice time together, see above photo from a Sunday walk, taken by my brother.
I am writing today because I came across two terrific photo essays that do such a beautiful job of capturing family history, that I thought I'd share them:

photos of family trips)
